Director of Mechanical Engineering Department at Lawrence Tech University.

Badih A. Jawad joined Lawrence Technological University in 1996 as an Assistant Professor of the Mechanical Engineering Department, and promoted to Associate Professor in 2002, and recently promoted to Professor effective Fall 2006. He has a B.S. and an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, and an M.S. and a Ph. D. in Chemical Engineering all from Wayne State University. His areas of interest and expertise are thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and internal combustion engines.  Previously, he taught at several local universities and also worked as a Research and Product Development Engineer for Chrysler Corporation.

Dr. Jawad serves Lawrence Tech as the faculty advisor to the Formula SAE and the Supermileage car projects. He is also the Director of the newly established program of the Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He also serves as the Director of the University Assessment Program and the chair of its committee. He is also the advisor of the Lawrence Tech student chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and a co-advisor to the Lawrence Tech student chapter of the Society of Automotive Engineers. He is also a member of the Engineering Faculty Council and the University Senate at Lawrence Technological University.

Dr. Jawad is a member of several engineering and professional societies, and has participated and attended many conferences in which he published numerous technical papers with his students. He also chaired and reviewed papers for various conferences, and has reviewed books for several national publishers.

Experience
Mary Assel, a Dearborn native is the Director of the English Language Institute at Henry Ford Community College.  She established the institute in the fall of 2001.  Her many faceted marketing and pubic relations efforts have helped to expand the program and attract students from over sixty countries.   She has also revised the English Division’s ESL classes to reflect the needs of non-native speaking audiences.  She has taught English as a Second language in Africa, the Middle East, and the US for over 32 years. 

She was the recipient of the 2007-8 Lectureship Award and the 2008 Women of the Year Award at HFCC.  She has published numerous articles on the cultural, socio-religious conditions of foreign students, and ESL teaching strategies.  She is an active member of various campus and off-campus committees. She has served as Vice-Chairman of the Islamic Center of America Board of Education for several years.

M YassineSenior Technical Specialist at DaimlerChrysler

Dr. Yassine received his Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering with concentration on diesel combustion and emissions from Wayne State University in 1995.  Dr Yassine is originally from South Lebanon from a village named Deir-Intar belonging to the district of Bint Jbeil.  He is married with two kids.

Dr. Yassine is currently employed with DaimlerChrysler in the Emission department as a senior engineer leading a team of eight engineers.  He was promoted in July 2005 to a Senior Technical Specialist working on new technologies and addressing regulatory affairs with the auto industry and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Dr. Yassine is a member of several engineering and automotive societies, including the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He wrote over 15 technical papers in both SAE and ASME dealing with the combustion and emissions of gasoline and diesel vehicles.

Dr. Yassine served on a previous MAYA board from 1999 to 2002 and on the current board since last year.

Dr. Nasser received his Doctor of Engineering in Manufacturing System with concentration on the use of Simulation and Modeling Techniques in the early stage of Product Development from Lawrence Technological University. Dr. Mohamed Nasser has been a resident in Dearborn for 26 years. He is currently working at General Dynamic Land Systems (GDLS) as a Senior Engineer Specialist. His responsibilities include leading the development of the technical data specification for new products.  Prior to his current position, he has worked for the government and private sector as an electronics engineer and program manager. He is an active member of the community. He is a member of the education committee of Bint Jbeil Cultural Center. He joined the MAYA school Board in December of 2004 and his wise insight and problem-solving skills have made him a valuable asset to the progress of the school. Dr. Nasser represents MAYA Board on the religious committee of the Islamic Center of America (ICA).

Susan Dabaja Hammoud graduated first in her class from the University of Detroit-Mercy School of Law in May 2004, where she earned her Juris Doctorate, magna cum laude.  During this period, Sr. Susan participated in the law school’s student government at many levels, was the recipient of several prestigious law school awards, inducted in the Frank Murphy Honor Society, selected as a Dean’s Scholar, and was the Symposium Editor of the University’s Law Review.  She also has her Bachelors of Science Degree and a Minor in Psychology from the University of Michigan-Dearborn, and is presently working on her Masters of Science Degree from Wayne State University.  Currently, Sr. Susan is a practicing attorney at Salamey & Farhat, PLLC, balancing both family and career.

Susan and her wonderfully supportive husband, Majid, are proud parents of two MAYA students, Claudia (2nd), whose been enrolled in MAYA for the past five years, and Joel (Pre-K).  The Hammoud family also includes a third child, baby Adam.

Susan’s goals and objectives include enhancing the quality of education for MAYA students and to help MAYA continue to flourish into a widely accepted Islamic/Arabic school for generations to come.  Being part of the MAYA family for the past five years, she would truly love to see the Muslim American Youth Academy continue to thrive and provide a viable means of education for present and future parents.

Dib SaabDr. Saab was born in Lebanon and graduated from Lebanon University, College of Education. He received a Master’s Degree in General Philosophy (French) in 1979. He taught at Bent-Jbeil High School for 8 years. He taught philosophy, psychology in both French and Arabic languages, also, French language and its literature. He trained teachers in “Modern Program,” how to teach French, Arabic languages, Pedagogy, Psycho-Pedagogy, and Sociology.

He moved to Michigan in 1987. Dr. Saab attended Henry Ford Community College then Wayne State University where he completed another Master’s Degree and completed his Doctorate Degree in 1997. He worked as a long term substitute and adult education instructor for Dearborn Public Schools for 3 years. Dr. Saab works for Detroit Public Schools as a K-12 certified instructor, also instructs part-time at Wayne County Community College.

Dr. Saab joined MAYA School Board this year with the intentions of helping as much as I can in my education and experience to facilitate in the Islamic Center of America and Maya School.

Salah HazimiIslamic Center of America Treasurer

Salah H. Hazimi graduated from Commercial Technical Institute in bookkeeping and general accounting in 1982. And graduated from American Institute of Tax Studies in 1992 as of Certified Tax Professional. 

Salah H. Hazimi came from the Jabal Amel in Lebanon as a merchant to Dearborn, Michigan. He soon became a building inspector for the city of Dearborn in 1977 and has been a practicing accountant since 1982.

In his past 24 years as accountant, his office has served thousands of clients in accounting and tax services. Including the Islamic Center of America, MAYA school and other non- profit organizations.

Mr. Hazimi has served on MAYA’s school board since it opened in 1999. His children also have attended MAYA since preschool.

Salah H. Hazimi was a founding board member in the Islamic Institute of Knowledge and has been a board member and Treasurer for over 20 years in the Islamic Center of America.

Salah H. Hazimi is a member of several accounting societies, including the National Society of Accountants, the National Society of Tax Professionals, Michigan Association of Financial Service Professionals, and Independent Accountants Association of Michigan.

Rima Charara

Rima M. Charara graduated from Wayne State University College of Allied Health and Profession with a Bachelor in Pharmacy in 1994.  She also pursued a degree in medical billing at Carnegie Institute in 2002.

After graduation, Rima pursued a career in Pharmacy at Rite Aid Corp. and practiced as a full-time Pharmacist for 10 years. She then chose to work with her husband in a surgical office and continued to work as a part-time Pharmacist. In the past 12 years, Rima's expertise in the field of pharmacy as a Pharmacist and a Preceptor has helped train many Pharmacists and assisted in Patient Education. 

Rima is blessed with three children, all of which attended MAYA since preschool. Rima has been an active parent at MAYA since 1998 and joined the MAYA board in 2004.

Rima is a member of several Pharmacy Organizations such as American Pharmacist Association (APhA) and Michigan pharmacist.

Mazen Chehab

Engineering Development Manager at Brose North America

Mazen Chehab received his masters of science in Mechanical Engineering from Lawrence Technological University in 2002.

Mazen Chehab is currently employed with Brose North America in the seat division as engineering development manager leading a team of thirteen design engineers. Mazen is a member of several engineering and automotive societies, including the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
